Iggy Azalea has been appropriating black hip hop culture for far too long, and when she’s not doing that, she’s actually spewing racial comments and pushing stereotypes on her social media. Anonymous would like her to stop, so they tried to stage a Die-In protest at her USC concert, to #ShutItDown.

The Die-In protests happening right now all over the US are a response to a grand jury’s decision not to indict the officer who put a 44-year-old black man, Erin Garner, in an illegal chokehold and killed him. They’re meant to draw attention to the way minorities in the US are still subject to discrimination, which often translates into abuse.

Anonymous announced their decision to boycott Iggy’s concert on Twitter, but they wouldn’t say why. The best explanation is that they too considered her part of the problem, in that she is a white woman from Australia who appropriates hip hop culture for profit, through her music.

KTLA reports that, despite the initiative, protesters who showed up were actually outnumbered by USC students, so the concert went on without a glitch. Yahoo! streamed it live but you can still snippets from it at the link.

As it happens, Anonymous isn’t the first to pick a fight with Iggy for the way she’s appropriating black culture like a fraud that she is. Just the other day, rapper Azealia Banks ripped into her on Twitter for the same reason.

Some of her tweets are too crude to be included here, but you will find the cleaner ones below: Azealia isn’t happy that Iggy is riding on the coattails of hip hop culture for money and fame, but will not use her voice for “the cause.”
