The Anonymous activist group, which has so far become well known for attacking the sites of banks and other organization which refused to serve the Wikileaks organization, has announced that it will be continuing its assaults on Sony and that the company will be targeted for a long time.

A representative from Anonymous has told the PlayStation Lifestyle site that, “So far, all Sony has seen from us is poking and prodding. A simple salute to let them know we’re coming. Make no mistake, what you saw today and thought to be frustration is merely preparation for what’s to come. We said, expect us. Counting us out would be a mistake.”

When pressed on the issue of gamer trouble linked to PSN attack he added, “The consumers in this are as one might call, collateral damage. We are very cognizant of the fact that we are not making friends nor allies among the average consumer with our attack. This is unfortunate as a concern should always be, will the very people we seek to support not see what it is we are trying to achieve.”

The initial Anonymous conducted attacks resulted in the PlayStation Network being taken down for so-called “maintenance” periods starting on Tuesday, but the service was never truly down.

Still, gamers seemed to be pretty annoyed by the fact that they could not engage in multiplayer matches and were left unable to download content they had rightfully purchased.

The Anonymous attacks are launched as payback for the legal action that Sony has taken against the group of hackers that have penetrated the protections of the PlayStation 3 and made information public on the Internet on how homebrew and, by extension, piracy could be enabled on the home console.

Sony has said that some of its executives have also been targeted, with prank calls and unwanted deliveries.
