The Anonymous hacktivist collective is planning distributed denial-of-service attacks against the Federal Reserve website and those belonging to the Malaysian government.

Both DDoS attacks are planned for today, but are part of separate Anonymous operations. Nevertheless, they coincide with Flag Day in the United States.

Protests against the Federal Reserve were announced through a video posted on YouTube and are part of a campaign called Operation Empire State Rebellion (OpESR).

"Nintety days ago, we requested Ben Bernanke's resignation as Federal Reserve Chairman. Mr. Bernanke has not complied with our request," the group says.

"The Federal Reserve's policies are systematically looting the country to enrich one-tenth of one percent of the population," it adds.

The video goes on to enumerate actions allegedly taken by the Federal Reserve which have damaged the economy and have impoverished the average citizen.

"We cannot remain passive while our future is going up in flames. It is time for us to stand up for ourselves. It is time for you to stand up for yourself. We must restore the rule of law and fight back against the organized criminal class," the group writes in its usual dramatic and idealistic fashion.

The video calls on supporters to organize sit-ins and occupy public spaces until the chairman of the Federal Reserve steps down. These real-world protests will be accompanied by the usual DDoS attacks that have become the group's signature.

In addition to the attacks against the Federal Reserve the hacktivist group also plans to attack websites belonging to the government of Malaysia which it accuses of being one of the world’s strictest governments.

"We fear that if you make further decisions to take away human freedom, we [will be] obligated to act fast and have no mercy," the group wrote in an online manifesto.
