Internet based activist group Anonymous, operating out of the 4chan message board, has announced that it will continue to act against video game publisher and hardware developer Sony despite the legal settlement that the company has reached with George Hotz, aka “Geohot”, the man who has been singled out as the main hacker in the group that breached the protections of the PlayStation 3.

The AnonOps channel on YouTube, which has been used in the past by Anonymous to communicate with outsiders and send important messages to those taking part in “operations,” has a new video posted about the Geohot – Sony situation.

The speaker, with his voice distorted, says, “GeoHot has taken a settlement with Sony. The case has been dropped. In the eyes of the law, the case is closed. For Anonymous, it is just beginning.”

The speaker adds, “By forcing social networking sites such as YouTube and Facebook to hand over IP addresses of those who have viewed performed an act of privacy invasion. We, Anonymous, will not allow this to happen.”

The YouTube video then talks about the action that is planned against Sony for this weekend, when volunteers from the group will enter the stores of the company, presumably wearing the Guy Fawker masks the organization favors, in order to drive customers away and inform them about Sony's actions.

More than 1,000 people have so far confirmed that they will be attending the weekend protest, but it's not clear how many of them will actually take part.

Anonymous has begun attacking Sony on Monday last week, first targeting the official website of the company and the infrastructure of the PlayStation Network.

The group then quit attacking the PSN because gamers have complained about it and said that it was still interested in causing problems for Sony.
