Hackers are urged to think before joining the operation

The Mexican faction of the infamous hacktivist group is playing a game of cat and mouse with the Zetas criminal organization. After their online fans showed their support for the mission against the drug cartel, Anonymous took a vote and decided to resume the entire operation.

According to TPM, Barret Brown who is named by some a spokesperson for Anonymous, wrote them an email in which he explained why the group decided to resume the operation, also mentioning that he is not part of the hacker collective.

In a video posted on Youtube, Brown further detailed, claiming that this operation is not much different from others that targeted dangerous zones, such as the ones in North Africa.

“It [Operation Cartel] was started by a small number of Anons a number of days back. This was canceled earlier this morning by one of the people involved and reported in the media as having been canceled. Shortly thereafter, the people held a vote and decided to go ahead with the operation,” Brown said.

“And at the same time, you have people unconnected with the operation are in the process of running down notes and otherwise planning for their own assisting operations.”

A blog post from Anonymous' site warns the online community that they're all in on the “same ship” but they encourage those who don't trust their abilities to refrain from participating in the operation.

“Are we afraid? Of course. Are we afraid for our lives? Obviously. However, we believe it is high time to say enough to the terrible situation caused by the falsehood of the government and lack of scruples of people who do not care about the welfare of their fellow human beings and have resulted in a deplorable state of ruin and disappointment in places like Mexico, a country that is on the verge of collapse,” read part of the post.

It will remain to be seen what the outcome of this mission will be, but hopefully the Zetas will not retaliate in the manner they accustomed us to.
