Infamous hacktivist group tells rapper to chill, change

Rapper, fashion designer, creative genius and self-titled “awesome” Renaissance man Kanye West likes to think that he’s better than any other artist out there, no matter their field of interest or work. Moreover, he loves nothing more than to proclaim it from the rooftops: in interviews, on social media, in impromptu chats with the paparazzi, you name it.

Kanye West emerged on the scene as one of the most talented and promising rappers. Until not long ago, he delivered solid albums that showcased his creativity and his versatility, while also standing for something, not being devoid of meaning.

Hacktivist group wants that Kanye West back and the current one gone.

Anonymous targets Kanye West: you’re the best example of what’s wrong with the world

A video message from Anonymous to the rapper has now gone viral, even though it was made and posted online right after his Grammys 2015 rant after Beck won Album of the Year and he felt offended because Beyonce deserved to take home the award.

In the video, a masked member of the group enumerates one by one all the reasons why Kanye is the exact opposite of everything he says he is: he is not high class, a sophisticated man but a spoilt child who will throw his toys at anyone daring to say something he doesn’t agree to; he’s not a good Christian because he respects none of their values; he is not even an artist because everything he does is just so he can get richer and more famous.

This brings to mind Kanye’s recent claims that he wanted to make affordable, accessible fashion because beauty wasn’t a luxury - and how he ended up releasing a line with Adidas Originals from which you can buy a camo jacket at $3,800 (€3,610).

Kanye is all talk and very little substance, if at all.

Today’s Kanye is not yesterday’s Kanye, in the sense that that one got lost along the way, blinded by Hollywood’s bright lights and the almighty dollar. His late mother would be ashamed of the man he grew up to be, Anonymous believes.

Anonymous gives Kanye one last chance

“A direct message to our brother, Mr. West, to teach him a lesson on humility, and responsibility, over his out of control, hypocritical, and impulsive actions. Anonymous is sounding off the new Renaissance era this year for humanity, and ‘we aint finna play with them nooooo more! Because at this point, we're tired of it!’,” Anonymous says.

They will be watching him, waiting for him to change and be the artist and the man that he claims he is. Anonymous isn’t threatening Kanye with hacking his accounts or leaking his music or who knows what else they could do, but they do make it clear: they will make sure his legacy is obliterated unless he changes.

Since the video was posted online last month and Kanye hasn’t said anything about it (on the contrary, he’s been talking himself up even more in interviews, being more outrageous and self-centered than ever), it’s safe to assume that he’s not taking Anonymous’ threat seriously.

You can see the video below. It really is a well-worded message, with good arguments and actual examples. Sadly, it’s probably a wasted lesson in humility as well.
