A group of Saudi hackers that claim to be part of Anonymous breached the sports website ONE, leaking personal information and credit card details belonging to more than 18,000 Israelis, including some celebrities.

The hackers said that the main purpose for the hack was to make a “gift to the world for the new year,” but also to see how people would stand outside banks to declare their credit cards stolen.

While the cybercriminals said that they obtained data on 400,000 individuals, in reality, there were only 18,000 unique entries, some of which repeated several times, Ynet informs.

ONE representatives stated that the breach was neutralized within minutes, but it was more than enough for the attackers to make away with a hefty loot.

On the bright side, victims came forward acknowledging that names, addresses and phone numbers were accurate, but the credit card information appeared to be outdated, most of the cards involved being expired.
