The hackers threaten to attack every Internet and communications asset

Anonymous hackers have released a video statement to announce their support for OccupyGezi, the protest campaign initiated by Turkish citizens against the destruction of the Gezi Park in Istanbul.

After police started using tear gas and high-pressure water hoses to move protesters out of the way of bulldozers, violence escalated.

“Turkey is supposed to be a so called ‘modern’ democracy, but the Turkish government behaves like the petty dictators in China or Iran. Anonymous is outraged by this behavior, and we will unite across the globe and bring the Turkish government to its knees,” hacktivists stated.

“We will attack every internet and communications asset of the Turkish government. You have censored social media and other communications of your people in order to suppress the knowledge of your crimes against them. Now Anonymous will shut you down, and your own people will remove you from power.”

OpTurkey’s initiators have published a list of targets that includes several websites owned by the government and police.

Over the past days, some of the sites have already been disrupted with distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks. A few of the government websites are still offline.
