Back in 2011, Anonymous hackers initiated a campaign against the Iranian government. OpIran was halted until a few hours ago, when the Iranian regime announced that it blocked all “illegal” VPNs.

The hacktivists haven’t announced their immediate plans, but they’ve already started gathering supporters for the campaign.

They’ve promised to release a press statement soon, but in the meantime, they’re distributing an older video released for OpIran.

The VPN blockade comes right before a new round of elections, but the hacktivists say they don’t support any of the candidates.

“We want a changed government and our people to gain their freedom back,” they said.

“If you had one wish what would it be? Mine would probably be a free Iran where everyone could live their lives and evolve,” one of the operation’s initiators wrote on Twitter.
