John Anthony Borell III of Toledo, Ohio, has been sentenced to three years in prison and three years of supervised release. Borell, known on the hacking scene as ItsKahuna, has also agreed to pay $227,000 (€171,000) in restitution to the law enforcement agencies whose websites he attacked.

Before handing out the sentence, the judge revealed that he had read the former Anonymous hacker’s personal history with “interest and sadness,” KSL informs.

He warned Borell, who is a newlywed, to stay away from guns and drugs, and advised him to accept mental health treatment. On the other hand, US District Judge Robert J. Shelby is confident that he will not hack again after he’s out.

Shelby gave Borell until December 6 to turn himself in. The man will likely serve the punishment in a federal prison that’s close to his home.

In April, ItsKahuna pleaded guilty to hacking the websites of the City of Springfield, the LA County Canine Police Association, the Salt Lake City police, the Syracuse police, and the Utah Chiefs of Police Association.

The three-year prison sentence is a result of a plea agreement he made with prosecutors.
