A Dutch hacker allegedly part of Anonymous hacked and defaced a number of 68 sites with the purpose of posting protest messages against China’s domination over Tibet.

Cyber War News informs that 45 sites were defaced in the first part of the operation and another 23 the next day. All of the defacements were carried out by a hacker that calls himself poltergeisth4cker.

The list of breached websites includes government, education, and commercial sites, all hosted on Chinese domains.

The affected locations displayed a “Free Tibet” message and a picture of Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet.

European and US hackers have been targeting a lot of Chinese sites in the past period, focusing mainly on government-owned domains. The operation that aims to bring down the “great firewall of China” has attracted a lot of hacktivists eager to post their protests on the main pages of insecure sites.
