The PlayStation Network has been suffering a series of small problems starting with late on Monday and the official website for both Sony and PlayStation have been having problems as Internet group Anonymous seems to be making good on their threat to target the company.

The official Twitter account which handles support for the PlayStation Network has mentioned that the PSN is “currently undergoing sporadic maintenance” and added, “Access to the PSN may be interrupted throughout the day. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Sony did not say when complete and normal service might be resumed.

The biggest problem for gamers is that their multiplayer session might be affected and that they might not be able to download the content that they have legally bought on the PSN.

Anonymous has told the media that Sony will become a target, adding a justification that says, “You have victimized your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands.”

Sony has not officially said that the Anonymous threat is connected to the PSN maintenance and to the problems it has had with its official sites.

Judging from comments posted on message boards and in comments sections, the PlayStation Network problems are not widespread and gamers seem to believe that Anonymous is not right in attacking a service that they are using in order to get back at Sony.

Anonymous has said that Sony is being targeted because of how it has acted after the security of the PlayStation 3 home gaming console has been breached.

The company has moved to sue all those involved, claiming damages and asking for all the information to be eliminated by those who spread it on the Internet.

The hackers say they only targeted the PS3 in order to enable homebrew and are not interested in enabling piracy.

sharing purchased downloads is like stealing. The only privacy we have is from other gamers and that our personal info wont be sold to spammers.Playstation however has the right to protect themselves from such thefts those people should feel lucky no criminal charges have been pressed.Play station has only grounded them from playing online for a set number of days I find this resonable and less then a slap on the hand.Anonymous defends criminals i guess so what does that say about them.PSN handle LOC-_-

Annonymous is not defending a criminal, they are attacking a corporate entity that overstepped their boundaries in filing suit against george hotz for enabling homebrew on his own ps3 and showing others how to do so. His work may have potentially opened the door for hackers and pirates, but thus was not his intention. Just as the government's laws while not intended to step on our freedoms do so everyday. For you to call him a criminal when sony removed a feature that many purchased their playstations solely for is just ironic. Sony should have been sued for this long ago as they removed an advertised and purchased feature from a product that we rightly own. Hotz was fully within his rights to alter his own legally acquired property. I may not agree with Annonymous's method or the fact I can't play online atm, but I fully support them that something needs to be done about Sony corporation.

you call yourself an Anon but yet you are getting yourself involved in something that has nothing to do with Anonymous. have you ever thought about your actions as a whole group before doing it. the consequences are usually severe when Anonymous gets involved. I'm not taking a side but let Sony deal with people their own way. Don't get involved in conflicts anymore.

The fact of the matter is that what Anon did is self-riteous and hypocritical... protect this george guy? quite frankly i dont realy care... if he opened the door for hackers than FUG HIM... but to take down the one part of SONY that it DOESNT CHARGE THE PUBLIC TO USE is rediculous. they may have tweeked sony but all they've really accomplished is hurting the public who just wants to play online. Its hypocritical... they arent heros.

Though I understand what he was trying to do I don't fully agree with his methods, it's not really hurting Sony though it is messing with them it's more so hurting the public who use online gaming daily. -__-

Yes alot of gamers are ticked off that the multi-player is down. But haven't you guys thought that the hacker deserves it. Afterall he is ruining gaming now for the rest of us. But Anonymous has no right getting involved in something that shouldn't concern them. I bet alot of the Anonymous people have a PS3 of their own, probably the rest could have a Xbox 360. I am friends with an Anon named Wiggles, he's really nice. But Anonymous should think about what their actions are doing before they do it. oh and they should also think about the consequences as well.

i think that anonymous are being fair they only want sony ps3 to restore the ps3 back to the last version and if sony decline the threat they will be hit worse because anonymous do not forgive and do not forget.

These hackers have got to be idiots of the biggest scale.
You can't expect to run home brew software on a consol the you bought to run paid for games or on a free public / gaming network.
If you think you have the right to run your own software then it would have to be on your own network with a consol that's not designed to run copy right games or games paid for by credit cards or bank details. There would be to many people running software to still that kind of data.
Sony have have every right to stop this. The consol they provide is strictly for prepaid games with secure features to buy more games and play on their gaming network. This is what you buy into when purchasing their consol.
You can't justify any reason for hacking that consol and it's security features.

If u wana mod ur ps3, its perfectly fine, sony wont stop you. however, if u use it on their network, u get in trouble. u dont have to except the terms a conditions nubs. U also didnt need to accept the update to remove other OS.
