The hacktivists target the agricultural biotech firm once again

Over the past couple of years, Anonymous hacktivists have launched several attacks as part of their campaign against Monsanto, a major US agricultural biotech organization, which the hackers condemn as being corrupt, unethical and even “evil.”

According to a statement published by Anonymous on Friday, activists from all over the world will join forces for an anti-Monsanto protest that will take place on May 25.

The hacktivists accuse the company of “altering the nature of our food supply without a concern about long term effects on human health” and of “creating a monopoly on the supply of seeds for farmers.”

They also claim to have found “increasing evidences of long term environmental damages.”

“For too long, Monsanto has been the benefactor of corporate subsidies and political favoritism. Organic and small independent farmers suffer losses while Monsanto continues to forge its monopoly over the world’s food supply, including exclusive patenting rights over seeds,” Anonymous’ statement reads.

“There are many solutions: voting with your dollar by buying organic, labeling of GMO foods, repealing relevant provisions of the US’s ‘Monsanto Protection Act’,” the hackers noted.

“But today we are asking you to take a first step and help us to inform the public about Monsanto’s secrets. Join us in the march to the streets to show the world and Monsanto that we are aware and want them to be hold accountable.”

No cyberattacks have been announced for this phase of OpMonsanto, but it’s likely that we’ll see at least some defacements.

In the meantime, a list of cities where anti-Monsanto protests will be organized has been published. In addition, the #OpMonsanto IRC channel has been created for those who want to take part in the campaign.
