Developer 11 Bit Studios has announced that their real-time tower offense strategy game Anomaly 2 will be making its way to Sony's PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system sometime in the near future.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth introduced a novel idea that took many people by surprise back in 2011, introducing the notion of a tower offense game where players are tasked not with carefully placing turrets in a maze, but with carefully taking them down by tactically controlling a limited amount of units.

11 Bit Studios has since then developed a sequel to the original tower offense game, Anomaly 2, which we have reviewed when it came out last year. The game received overall positive reviews, being praised especially for its solid single-player gameplay and good visuals.

The game is set in the near future, after Earth was invaded by alien machines in 2018. With humankind on the verge of extinction, the last remnants band together in convoys and scour across the frozen tundras scavenging for supplies and food. The tables have turned, and now man is the anomaly on the machine-controlled planet.

Anomaly 2 benefits from a number of new features, such as the ability to morph troops into war mechs with different abilities that will help players overcome certain specific battle scenarios, and the new single-player campaign that will allow users to fight their way across the post-apocalyptic world in even more challenging scenarios than before.

Furthermore, the devs boast over a million possible tactical combinations to build squads, offering nearly endless combat options and a wealth of strategic decisions to be made.

The new game expanded on the basic gameplay elements as well as adding new elements to the campaign, but the best thing about it was the introduction of multiplayer, with a challenging mode that allows for a unique 2-player tower offense vs, tower defense experience.

The developer also has a liberal policy when it comes to the recording and publishing of in-game footage for sharing on YouTube or live streams, and considering that the PlayStation 4 was responsible for 20 percent of Twitch streaming a month after it came out, this can only lead to good things.

The exciting announcement regarding the upcoming PS4 release came over the Anomaly 2 website, but for now no definitive release date was given for the port. Anomaly 2 is currently available on Android, Blackberry, iOS, PC, Mac and Linux.
