This past October 2, La-Petite, a 28-year-old female Asian elephant living in captivity at Israel's Ramat Gan Safari Park, gave birth to an adorable calf.

Keepers say that the baby elephant is a female, and that it has been named “Lalana,” which is Sanskrit for “girl.”

It presently shares an enclosure with father Motek, sister La-Belle and the latter's girl, Latangi, Zoo Borns details.

The same source tells us that, while pregnant with Lalana, La-Petite had to step in and help La-Belle look after Latangi.

Thus, this 2-month-old baby elephant was fairly weak at birth, and the two females had to work together to nurse her and help her get back on her feet.

Luckily, things turned out all right and the Ramat Gan Safary Park can now take pride in being home to two healthy and active baby Asian elephants.
