New guy on the block promises to beat renowned hackers to the feat

You’d think that two infamous hacker groups would be enough to fill the jailbreak scene. Dream JB wants to debunk this theory and plans to make a name for itself on December 22 when it wants to release an untethered jailbreak for the latest iDevices and iOS firmware.

Dream JB, a one-man team, says the “first untethered iOS 6 jailbreak will be exclusively available at www.dreamjb.com [on] 22/12/2012.”

Supported devices under iOS 6.0.1 will include iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and above, as well as iPod Touch 4th-generation and up.

The team’s leader says “proof” will be posted both on the Dream JB site and on his Twitter account (@DreamJailbreak) on Wednesday. The official release is planned for December 22.

“As far as the video that will be uploaded, it will be a single-take shot of the entire jailbreak process, including a restart and usage of the device to prove it is untethered,” says the hacker, who is unknown at this point.

“It will be uploaded as raw video straight from my camera to YouTube. So no edits in any form.”

The hacker encourages visitors of his site to visit the FAQ before attempting to send any questions via email or Twitter.

It is worth pointing out that both iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team have been unable to confirm any untethered jailbreaks for the latest iOS.

In other words, expect Dream JB to gain quite a bit of attention come December 22 when he unveils his promised hack to the world.

The hacker pledges to use Twitter to post regular updates, “and in the coming week will be sharing some stuff you want to see,” he writes. Sounds exciting!

Visit the hacker’s site here for more information and keep your fingers crossed for this to be true.

Update: apparently it's a scam. Get the full scoop here.
