The singer calls Beyonce a “feminist lite”

While the media doesn't find the time to stop with their appreciations of the former Destiny's Child member, at least one other voice from the industry isn't afraid to speak out against “Queen Bey.” Former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox has blasted Beyonce for claiming to be a feminist when in reality she is not.

Last month, at the MTV Video music Awards, Beyonce came on stage to proclaim that she is a feminist and upholds the entire feminist agenda, but Lennox thinks that this is just marketing for her. In an interview with PrideSource, Lennox said about Beyonce, “I would call that 'feminist lite'. L-I-T-E. I'm sorry. It's tokenistic to me. I mean, I think she's a phenomenal artist - I just love her performances - but I'd like to sit down [with her].”

Feminism is a trend, Beyonce is following it

In fact, Annie thinks that there's a trend between female stars at the moment to claim that they're feminists and she thinks she knows why everybody is doing it at the moment, “I see a lot of it as them taking the word hostage and using it to promote themselves, but I don't think they necessarily represent wholeheartedly the depths of feminism - no, I don't.”

The 59-year-old Lennox, who is a veteran on the pop stage, also spoke out against the current trend of featuring scantily-clad women on stage and in music videos, as a means to further promote artists. “I think for many it's very convenient and it looks great and it looks radical, but I have some issues with it. I have issues with it. Of course I do. I think it's a cheap shot. I think what they do with it is cheap and ... yeah,” Annie deadpanned.

Some artists are also undressing to sell more records, Beyonce included

She pointed out, mind you without giving any names, that some artists have a far too young fan base to be displaying themselves on stage like that. It turns out that the musician has a bone to pick with just about everyone in the industry these days because, let's face it, not only Beyonce is doing it these days.

As fate would have it, just last week, Beyonce suffered a wardrobe malfunction on stage, revealing a little too much to the audience, which gives even more credibility to Annie's claim, but what's more disturbing is her accusation about being fake feminists for some of the women in show business today.

Because feminism is such a hot topic at the moment, let's just say that it doesn't hurt any of the performers out there to claim that they too are feminists and support the cause. But how many are actually willing to take the necessary steps to uphold feminism, a current that seems to be increasingly annoying to some people.

Let's not forget that actress Emma Watson took significant steps to uphold her feminist beliefs and she instantly became a target for hackers who claimed that they were going to leak her intimate photos. So far, Beyonce has yet to take similar actions that would jeopardize her career.
