“Les Miserables” is turning into one of the most talked about productions of the day and it’s all because of its stellar cast. Shortly after photos of an emaciated looking Hugh Jackman leaked online, comes a very troubling report.

The Mirror claims that Anne Hathaway, who also has a part in the film, has put herself on a very strict and completely unhealthy diet because she must lose as much weight as possible over a very short while.

In other words, she’s basically starving herself to be able to shoot scenes of her character on her deathbed.

An insider claims that she’s taking whatever measures she can to make sure she will not get sick because of the diet, because she understands the pressure that comes with being a part of such a big budget film.

Anne, now a healthy size 10, has put herself on a crash diet of “two apples” / 500 calories a day because she has about 15 to 20 days to drop no less than 4 dress sizes, to become a size 6.

“Unfortunately, she only has 15 to 20 days to lose as much weight as possible – up to a stone-and-a-half [21 pounds / 9.52 kg] – because she’s been filming the scenes showing her fit and healthy, almost slightly chubby,” an inside source is quoted as saying.

“It’s not ideal but, as with any high-budget movie, there are strict time constraints. Producers have assigned her a personal trainer and she is literally eating nothing more than a couple of apples a day, and some protein – mainly in the form of a shake,” says the spy.

“Anne knows the risk of such an extreme diet and will undergo weekly medicals to make sure everything is still functioning as it should do,” the same insider explains.

As noted above, just days ago, the first photos of Hugh Jackman in character as Jean Valjean emerged online.

He too looked particularly emaciated and unhealthy, but no word yet on how he might have lost the weight.
