Over the weekend, the former 'Playboy' model came to a turning point in her life, as she gave birth to a little baby girl and witnessed her son's tragic death, all in just a matter of a few days. Daniel Smith, aged only 20, was found dead in a hospital room, while he was watching over his mother's bedside.
Anna admitted herself to a clinic in Bahamas, where she was almost immediately joined by her son, who came to see his baby sister and to check on his mother's state of health. The second day after his arrival, Daniel was found dead.
Police reports inform that, when Anna woke up in the morning, she saw Daniel sitting upright in his chair, apparently asleep. The starlet tried to wake him up by calling his name several times, then by touching him on the arm, but no response came from her son. After seeing that Daniel was completely unresponsive, Nicole Smith sounded the alarm and the medical staff was summoned to her room.
The doctors tried to resuscitate him for about 22 minutes and declared him dead after failing to get a reaction from the young boy. Yesterday, an American magazine published a story, according to which Daniel's death was caused by a 'massive heart attack', but no drugs or alcohol led to it.
Her Majesty's Coroner Linda P. Virgil performed the autopsy on Daniel Smith, but she was very vague about the causes that led to his demise. Nevertheless, she stated that the death was most certainly unnatural but, up to now, she can't say exactly what caused it until the toxicology tests are not concluded.
It has been suggested that a big amount of antidepressants was found in Daniel's blood and that a nurse saw him vomit uncontrollably only hours before he was found breathless. The coroner said that a press statement will be made by the end of the week, including the test results from the lab, which will clearly indicate if the boy was on drugs or not.
An investigation will be launched by the end of October or early November, which will include all the persons who came in contact with him (and even Anna Nicole Smith), in order to allow police investigators to establish the exact cause of death.
