Ever since February, the mystery surrounding Anna Nicole Smith's life and untimely death has grown to never-before-seen proportions. What with the tens of investigations and trials, everything is still as hazy, if not hazier, than before - there is the question of the paternity of Dannielynn Hope, of the inheritance, of her son's death and, last but not least, of who was responsible for Anna's surmise, meaning who provided her with the drugs that killed her. But the only thing that is certain is that Anna's life will continue to fascinate and intrigue the world, now more than ever.
To shed more light on a troubled existence, here come two pieces of irrefutable evidence: Anna Nicole's personal diaries, dating from back in the heydays when she was still a struggling model and, afterwards, the wife of a filthy wealthy (and extremely old) oil tycoon. Written in a child-like hand and fully equipped with as many spelling mistakes as you could possibly imagine, the two items were made public yesterday and are about to go on sale at the Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas, come April 14.
One of the diaries, written before she met the man who made her the starlet she was in later years, Howard J. Marshall, looks like the kind of diary a 7-year-old would normally keep. With covers in bright purple and green, it holds a warning on its very first page, to warn off any potential violators of her privacy: 'This diary belongs to Vickie Smith. Do Not Read!'. In its pages, Anna Nicole (real name Vickie Lynn Smith) details her ongoing relationship with Paul Marciano, the CEO of Guess Inc., where she would later work as the spokesperson for their jeans, after she replaced Claudia Schiffer.
To make a very long story short, Anna Nicole writes about her first dates with Marciano, her weight obsession, her weeks-long starvation and about her hopes of making it into showbiz. 'Oh, my Gosh!! Paul Marsiano called today to see if I got his books also I'm gonna go to San Antonio to do photo shoot. I'm so excited!! I can't believe this. This could be it', she says, adding no more and no less than five hand-drawn smiley faces to express the exact amount of excitement she felt. But the rest of this paragraph is important for something else, too, other than the fact that it marks the beginning of her modeling career: she says she convinced Marciano to let her do the photo shoot without putting out for him, adding that, quote, 'I hate for men to want sex all the time. I hate sex anyway...'
The second diary dates from the time when she was married to the oil tycoon and, from what Anna Nicole wrote in its pages, she comes off as a regular wife, very much troubled about her husband's health issues, and not as the gold digger the media made her look like. 'My husbands very sick and weak, Theres nothing I can do I want each hour to comfort him with medicines and prayers.... When you touch him Im afraid he might break.... Sometimes he tries to smile and give me such hope, he a fighter and I believe he can make it.... If Jesus desides to take him I dont no what I'll do. I love him so much.', the starlet wrote in one of the entries.
Although she did appear to love Marshall, Anna Nicole also confessed that she couldn't help but feel aggravated by his possessive behavior. 'I've been really stressed out lately and depressed and I can't quit eating. I feel like a pig. Howard has been buying me som jewelry but he call me 15 or 20 times a day it drives me crazy. I love him but he aggravates me sometimes. I don't no what to do about Paul hes strange guy.', Anna said in an entry dating from August 1992.
The two diaries of Anna Nicole Smith are expected to fetch somewhere in the range of $50,000-$100,000 but, according to media reports, they might be valued at more.
