Rihanna is currently working on a new studio album that will be released sometime this year, or perhaps early in 2010, no one can tell for sure. What is certain so far, though, is that it will bring to the table a much edgier and angrier sound, as we also reported a while back, Ne-Yo and Akon, just two of the many collaborators Rihanna has chosen for it, say for E! Online.

Chris Brown chose to speak about the February 8 incident, when he lashed out at his then-Girlfriend Rihanna and beat her almost unconscious, via the media in a series of televised interviews and press statements. Rihanna, on the other hand, will presumably go on the artistic route, opting for her music as a means of venting the frustration and pent-up anger, the E! report says. From what Ne-Yo and Akon are willing to reveal, this certainly seems to be the case.

“Expect an edgier, almost angrier Rihanna on this one. Rihanna says some things on this album that you’ve never heard her say before.” Ne-Yo tells E! Online. Akon, in his turn, confirms that the upcoming album from the hitmaker will be much edgier than anything she’s put out before, but insists that he will do his best to bring the aggressiveness down a note. “I’m not supposed to say anything but I’m going to work on as many songs as possible with her. I’m going to lighten her up. I don’t want an angry Rihanna.” Akon says.

Unfortunately for fans of the “Umbrella” singer, neither Ne-Yo nor Akon are at liberty to offer more details about the upcoming, much-hyped album. Then again, chances are they don’t know them themselves or, if they do, they have been prohibited to speak to the media about them. However, word in the industry has it that work on the yet-unnamed album is almost completed, and that a release date should be announced in the next couple of months.

Sean Kingston has also agreed to work with Rihanna on the upcoming material. “Me and my producer Yankee, we cooking up some stuff. Her people said we want some stuff for Rihanna ’cause I’m from Jamaica. I got the island feel, so I’m writing some stuff right now for her new album.” Kingston was saying a while back, as we also informed you.
