Britney Spears’ “Circus” targeted for media ban because of “If You Seek Amy” single

Britney Spears is no stranger to controversy, either in terms of her personal life, or in that of her music. However, a clear line has always been drawn as to what was appropriate for her to sing to her fans and what not. “If You Seek Amy” was, apparently, not adequate for her younger fans, as the singer’s label just changed its name to avoid a media ban.

Word of this first got out last week, when several media representatives noted that the words of the track seemed to make no sense. When they got to the part where Britney sings “All the boys and the girls are begging to If You Seek Amy,” they were all the more confused as no one could understand what she was talking about. However, upon close inspection, it was revealed that, when whispered really slowly, the above line gets an entirely different meaning.

It was this that got parents all up in arms, as well as several major radio stations, both from the US and abroad. Their argument was, understandably, that Britney’s fanbase also includes 7 to 14 year olds, which made it so that hearing them sing-along to that particular track an embarrassment and reason for concern. There was talk of a ban, with radio stations saying they would refuse to play the singer’s single off “Circus.”

The easiest way out of this potentially damaging situation was, according to sources, to change a bit the title of the track. Thus, it will no longer be known as “If You Seek Amy,” the label having dropped the “k” in “seek.” “Rather than rewriting the song, Brit and her label have simply dropped the ‘k’ from the end of ‘seek’ and renamed the song ‘If You See Amy.’ The removal of that one letter might have kept parents and radio stations happy but the downside is that the track now makes no sense whatsoever.” the British tab The Sun informs.

This out of the way, Britney can now focus on her upcoming tour, knowing that her latest album, with all the tracks on it, is back into the good graces of the public, be it of age or not.
