Rovio has confirmed that would release a special Angry Birds Trilogy collection later this year for platforms like the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo 3DS, which includes the original game, as well as Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio.

Angry Birds started out as a small mobile game released onto the iPhone by Rovio and it quickly became a global phenomenon, drawing in millions of people across platforms like the iOS or Android, but also on devices like the PSP or PS3 as a PS mini title.

Now, after Activision has confirmed that it’s working with Rovio to release a full-fledged version of Angry Birds for home consoles, the studio has revealed that an Angry Birds Trilogy would be released later this year.

"You can think of the game as the ultimate collector’s edition," said Rovio's Executive Vice President of Games Petri Järvilehto, via IGN. "There are new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content. In addition all of the existing material has been uprezzed and re-treated for the high-resolution and big screen."

As its name suggests, the Angry Birds Trilogy contains three games: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, which will be included on a single Blu-ray disc for PS3, DVD for Xbox 360, or cartridge for the Nintendo 3DS.

"The backgrounds have been animated, we've added lighting modes, reactive backgrounds, the list goes on and on," Järvilehto said. "We believe that there are a lot of people on the consoles who appreciate a great casual game play experience. This is a game that resonates across a wide audience on many platforms."

It’s unclear if the games will contain all the downloadable stages that were released already on mobile phones.

The games will, however, include support for things like PlayStation Move on PS3, Kinect on Xbox 360, or StreetPass on the 3DS.

"There have been so many fans asking to be able to play the game on their home console with their friends and family, and so far we haven't been able to offer anything to them," he said. "Now we're finally able to have a great high quality experience on those platforms."

Expect to hear more about the Angry Birds Trilogy soon.
