Angry Birds, the mobile game that Rovio Mobile made available for handsets running under Google's Android operating system during fall last year, has been already downloaded over 30 million times.

The mobile game proved successful from day one, when it managed to bring down GetJar's servers with over one million downloads.

Moreover, it reached three million downloads in the first several days of availability, and it seems that it remained as popular among Android users as it was in the beginning.

The mobile game was made available at that time for free, though it is ad supported. The company should release an ad-free, paid flavor of the title too in the near future.

Rovio's Peter Vesterbacka, a GDC speaker as part of a Google-run Android monetization panel, was the one to break the news, reportedly.

Following the initial release of the mobile game, Rovio also made available a series of updates for users, which were warmly welcomed, it seems.

Around 80 percent of those who downloaded the application in the first place also downloaded the subsequent updates, Vesterbacka said.

This clearly shows that Android users continue playing Angry Birds on their devices, which means that they retained interest in the game.

Apparently, the mobile title proved so popular on Android that Rovio also decided to release a new flavor of it in the near future.

Dubbed Angry Birds Rio, the new version of the game should arrive as soon as this month with new characters included into the mix, Blu and Jewel, two rare macaws, the company confirmed a while ago.

Angry Birds Rio will launch with 45 dedicated levels, and should be released on Android, iOS and Symbian devices.

Angry Birds, the smash-hit smartphone game, is also headed for the Windows Phone 7 operating system, and should become available for download in the Marketplace in the next several weeks.

Those Android users who might have not had the opportunity to try out the Angry Birds mobile game as of yet would find it available for download in the Android Market here.
