Rovio has been teasing the latest game in the Angry Birds franchise for the last couple of days, pointing to a new medieval theme for its next title.

Dubbed Angry Birds Epic, this is the first RPG created by Rovio and marks a huge turn in genre by the well-known developer. Rovio promised that more details on its RPG title would be unveiled this week and the company kept its promise.

According to an official statement, Angry Birds Epic is now available for download only for iOS devices in select countries. Following the recent trend of soft releases, Rovio confirmed that its Angry Birds Epic game would only be available for download in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

iOS users living in other countries will have to wait until later this spring in order to download the game on their devices. No specific date has been announced for the full launch of the title, but we expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks.

Here is Rovio’s explanation for why it offers the game in these three countries: “This is a soft launch, which is what game developers do when the game development is ready, but they want some critical feedback from players in the real world.

“Tons and tons of testing has been done, but we want to get our fans’ feedback and opinions in for those last tweaks before releasing the game to the whole wide world! For now, unless you live in those three countries, you’ll still have to wait a bit more - but not too long!”

Sadly, Windows Phone and Android fans have been skipped from the initial release of the game, and Rovio did not mention anything on when these platforms would get Angry Birds Epic.

However, in the original teaser, Angry Birds Epic was confirmed for all major mobile platforms, including Android and Windows Phone 8, so it’s just a matter of time before the game hits Windows Phone Store and Google Play.

Angry Birds Epic is a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements. According to Rovio, the game is set in a fantasy version of Piggy Island and offers both an interesting storyline and a rich craft weapon system.

The game will initially feature two characters, Red and Chuck, but a third, Bomb, has been confirmed to be added soon. Red plays the role of the Knight class in RPG genre, while Chuck is the Mage. Bomb is still a mystery, but we suspect he’s going to be the Range class.

Anyway, those of you living in any of the three countries we mentioned earlier should check out App Store for Angry Birds Epic, as the game has been confirmed to arrive on March 17.
