PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable owners are in for a major treat this week, as mobile games developer Rovio will launch its extremely addictive Angry Birds title on the two platforms, as a PlayStation Minis digital download.

In case you're still unaware of the Angry Birds phenomenon, the title has seen millions of downloads on mobile platforms like iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch), Android or Symbian.

Now, its developer, Rovio, is keeping true to its statements, and has just announced that it will release Angry Birds on the PlayStation 3 and PSP as a downloadable PS Minis title.

"The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the green pigs who stole the Birds’ eggs. Use the unique destructive powers of the Angry Birds to lay waste to the pigs’ fortified castles," read the Rovio press release, posted on the official PlayStation Blog.

"Angry Birds features hours of gameplay, challenging physics-based castle demolition, and lots of replay value. Each of the 63 levels requires logic, skill, and brute force to crush the enemy."

PlayStation Minis titles are special, lightweight releases that can be played on both the PlayStation Portable, for which they were originally intended, as well as on the PlayStation 3.

Angry Birds has already racked up tens of millions of downloads on all of the platforms, and its addictive nature was even studied by university professors.

It's safe to say that the new release, even if it won't have the same feeling as on touchscreen mobile devices, will delight PlayStation 3 and PSP owners.

Rovio revealed last year that it was at the moment developing versions for other consoles like the Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii, so it's safe to say that Angry Birds will arrive on the Xbox Live Arcade and WiiWare services in the future.

Until then, it will be launched with the traditional PlayStation Store update later this week.
