A fisherman has landed a record, once-in-a-lifetime skate off the Scotland coast and decided to let it loose.

47-year-old David Griffiths has no regrets about giving up a record title. In fact, he is more concerned about the fate of the fish he would have sacrificed to get that title.

“I won’t kill a fish for a piece of paper,” he says.

According to the Mirror, it took 90 minutes for Griffiths to reel in the monster skate in the proximity of Oban. The fish was weighed at 235 lb (106 kg) and measured 7ft (213 cm) by 6ft (182 cm).

“It was an unbelievable feeling. It’s was a really beautiful fish. And the skipper said it’s a new British record,” one witness describes after catching a glimpse at the capture.
