Psychotherapist weighs in on star's now infamous pose on the red carpet

On the red carpet at the 2012 Academy Awards, Angelina Jolie caused a stir by striking the now infamous leg pose, which had her uncomfortably thrusting her leg out of her dress for photographers. One psychotherapist believes it was all a cry for attention.

Insiders have already told the press that Jolie only struck the pose because she was joking with the press; this is also why she repeated the stunt during the actual Oscarcast, when she came up on stage to present an award.

However, psychotherapist Jessica Aronson, who has never met or treated the star, believes she was actually trying to get attention, as she says for Radar Online.

Never before has Jolie felt the need to do something like this on the red carpet because, usually, all eyes are on her, being the gorgeous and accomplished woman that she is – not to mention famous.

This year, something was different, and it prompted her to resort to such a cheap trick as that of flashing her body to get attention, Aronson says.

“People often flaunt their bodies in need of attention. Her dress, like many others such as Jennifer Lopez’s, was so exposing and in my clinical opinion a deeper desire for attention,” she says.

However, Angelina's gesture didn't get her the kind of attention she was hoping for.

Aronson also says that it could be she wanted, somehow unconsciously, to steal the spotlight from her partner, Brad Pitt, who had been nominated at the ceremony, but sadly didn't win.

“I imagine with all her children, career and volunteer work she may be falling last on her list of priorities which often results in weight loss and body changes,” Aronson says.

“In addition, I wonder if she feels she has to keep up with Brad Pitt, who was up for an Oscar. There might be a level of competition which can often fuel changes in one’s body as a way to deal with unresolved feelings,” she adds.

As we also noted on various previous occasions, Angelina Jolie created a genuine media storm with that awkward-looking pose.

Her right leg even has its own Twitter account, while, online, you can find some of the most hilarious memes with it – including something called “legbombing.”
