Much ink has been wasted on Angelina Jolie’s diet and beauty secret, especially in recent months, when she’s been looking skinnier than before – and the star is now offering it to the media.

At one point, speculation on Jolie’s weight had it she lived on nothing but a handful of pretzels and lots of water every day, while other rumors claimed she worked out hours on end and hardly ate a few oatmeal cakes.

In what must be a first interview of this type, as cited by The Improper, Angelina says that her beauty secret is that she eats a lot of red meat, while admitting she was once vegan and it almost killed her.

Being a vegetarian is admittedly one of the healthiest and most satisfactory lifestyles, because it allows one to be both healthy and slim, while also not killing unnecessarily any animals.

Angelina too seems to have tried out this diet but she was not at all impressed with the results because, as she got to find out the hard way, it only left her malnourished and almost killed her.

“I joke that a big, juicy steak is my beauty secret. But seriously, I love red meat,” the actress recently said, after being criticized for looking too skinny to be healthy at the Berlin premiere of her latest film, “Salt.”

“I was a vegan for a long time, and it nearly killed me. I found I was not getting enough nutrition,” the actress adds, though she doesn’t say when that happened exactly.

To prepare for “Salt,” in which she plays a CIA agent who may actually be a Russian sleeper out to bring down the US government (or not), Angelina had to hit the gym a lot and be very careful about what she ate.

What she and personal trainer Simon Crane were set to achieve was to have her build muscle without losing weight, which meant she could have all the carbs she wanted.

“She ate about five small meals a day and stuck to a diet of 70% carbs and 30% protein – and actually avoided cardio – to help ‘put muscle on without losing weight,’ says trainer Simon Crane, who worked with the actress to get in top form for the film,” People wrote a while back, as we also reported.

“On the hit list: No junk food, and alcohol only on weekends. To build muscle and stamina for her role as CIA officer Evelyn Salt, Jolie was disciplined with her training regimen,” the same publication informed.
