ABC has released the full interview with Angelina Jolie for Nightline, to promote her first directorial film, “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” In it, she also talks about the motivation behind writing the story and her plans for the future.
Jolie has long said that she didn't see herself acting into old age, mostly because it was something that kept her away from her family for longer periods of time.
While, in recent years, she's still done several films, that will probably change depending on how audiences react to “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” which she wrote and directed.
“I don’t feel needed in a position of being an actor. I feel like I’m needed at home as a mom, and I’m hoping that I’ll find other things,” she says in the interview, as the video below will confirm.
“I’d love to be able to write or direct or work on and produce more projects about issues dealing with situations that I feel passionate about,” she adds.
At the same time, as much as she desires the film to be a hit, she already knows it won't be so.
“We did it because we felt this is a war that isn’t talked about enough,” she says of why she chose to tackle such a difficult, potentially controversial topic.
“I know it’s a hard film to sit through, but it’s two hours to sit through something that’s very hard, and these people lived through it for many, many years, and it was many, many times worse than any reenactment could possibly be. And I feel like it’s a gift and a duty to sit through two hours of what they lived through,” Jolie adds.
She also says that she started researching for the film (even though, at the time, she wasn't even thinking this is where she was heading) out of a need to “educate” herself on the conflict, to learn more about the greatest genocide since WWII.
