Angelina Jolie says she doesn’t want to be making movies for the rest of her life

She’s never made a secret of her plans to cut down on work to spend more time with her family but, this time, Angelina Jolie is more determined than ever. She’s grateful for her career but she doesn’t want to be doing this for the rest of her life, she says in a new interview.

Jolie sat down with The Financial Times (via Slate) to speak about her directorial debut and what are her plans for the future and, somehow not surprisingly, she says it’s about time she and Brad took a breather.

Though she cut down considerably the number of projects she does yearly because of her and Brad’s ever-expanding brood, Angelina continues to have a pretty busy agenda.

It won’t be so for much longer, she says in the interview.

“As Brad and I get older we’re going to do fewer films. I’ve been working for a long time, he’s been working for a long time,” the actress says.

“We’ve had a nice run and I don’t want to be doing this our whole lives. There are a lot of other things to do,” Jolie adds. She’s probably referring to her family, charity work, and directing and producing instead of being in front of the camera.

Still, that’s not to say that she’s being ungrateful for the amazing career she has: on the contrary, Jolie knows she wouldn’t be the same without it.

“I’ve never not been grateful to be an actor. But I think when I was younger I needed [acting] more. I was trying to question things in life so you find these characters that help you find things and grow,” Angelina says.

She compares acting to being in therapy. And, it would seem, she’s sorted through the issues she had when she was younger, so she needs fewer hours on the couch now.

“I’m older and I know who I am… and I’m less interested in the character helping me answer something… than in being able to answer it for myself, as a woman, as an adult, with my family,” she says.
