When Angelina Jolie arrives in theaters this May as Maleficent in Disney’s live-action film of the same name, make sure you remember, while watching her performance, that you won’t be able to see something like this for a very long time, possibly never.

Jolie has never hid from her fans her desire to retire (more or less) from acting so that she could focus more on directing and writing, but it seems that she’s now finally getting the chance to actually do that.

Answering a question about where acting is on her priorities list, alongside being a mother, working with the UN, directing and writing, during a press call in London, Jolie left no room for doubt: right at the bottom of that list, if on it at all.

“[Acting is] going to be taking more of a back seat. I’ve had a wonderful career and I’m going to be taking all of the opportunities I’ve had to tell stories and work for as long as I have. I’m sure there’ll be a few more films, but I’m happy I’m able to be selective and have fun with characters like this. I would like to focus more on writing and directing, and above all I would like to focus more on my work with the UN,” she said, as cited by The Telegraph.

While fans will certainly bemoan her absence from the big screen, there’s always some consolation to be had in the fact that she’s not planning on retiring completely from the spotlight.

While Jolie is writing and directing, there’s also a lot of buzz about a new film she’ll be doing with partner Brad Pitt, for which she will also pen the script. So there is at least another movie coming after “Maleficent.”
