Fans already know that Angelina Jolie insisted she did most of her stunts in the upcoming “Salt” movie, in which she plays a spy who would stop at nothing to get her way. TMZ reports that the star was rushed to the hospital yesterday, after being hurt on the set of the movie, as she was filming precisely one such action scene. Luckily, she is now fine, the same media outlet says.

“Angelina Jolie was taken to the hospital today after getting hurt on the set of her new movie. Angelina was shooting ‘Salt’ on Long Island, when she bumped her head, getting some sort of nick in between her eyes. She bled a bit and was taken to the hospital. Her manager tells us she was doing a stunt when the incident occurred. He says she is completely fine.” TMZ writes.

An official statement from the movie studio has also been released in the meantime, saying that Angelina had sustained only a “minor injury,” and that the trip to the hospital was more of a precautionary measure than anything else. Filming for “Salt” has already resumed, and Jolie is now OK and able to do her part and some of the stunts like before, it is further noted in the same statement.

As fans must know, in “Salt,” Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a secret agent. Although the script for the film was initially penned with Tom Cruise in mind, when it became clear that the actor would not accept the offer, for one reason or another, the entire story was rethought to include Evelyn as the main character, with Angelina Jolie already attached. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura once described “Salt” as similar to the Bourne series and even to the James Bond films, the only difference between the three being only that, well, “Salt” is with a female lead character.

“She’s a character you never know. People who think they know the real her may or may not. Those who think they can tell whether she’s in a disguise also may or may not. You’re supposed to be kept guessing. She tells you her agenda, but are you supposed to believe it?” di Bonaventura was saying a while back about what would make “Salt” a movie unlike any other spy movies ever released.

“Salt” is directed by Phillip Noyce (“The Bone Collector” and “Patriot Games”), and is scheduled to be out in 2010. For more details on this production, make sure you stay tuned here.
