Andy van der Meyde is certainly not enjoying his life in the Premiership right now. After signing with Everton, the Dutchman had to be very careful when going out, since you never know when you'll see a Liverpool fan come across you. Still, when you don't recognize him as being a "red", the situation gets worse. And that's exactly what happened with Andy last
weekend.
The Everton midfielder went out for a drink in one of Liverpool's clubs. After having a few shots, though, the Dutchman was immediately taken to the hospital. And it was a pretty harsh blow for Van der Meyde, since the player is not exactly an "alcohol virgin". And the reason why he had to spend all Monday in the hospital was revealed soon after.
"We were called this morning at 20 to three by a woman, the partner of the man, saying his drink had been spiked. An ambulance was called and he was taken to Arrowe Park hospital in the Wirral where he is being treated. As a result of an examination of CCTV footage, an investigation is underway and inquiries have been made at bars in Liverpool city centre", said a police spokeswoman.
The Everton officials fear that their player was eyed by a Liverpool fan. Still, the investigators did not release any information that would lead to such conclusion. Van Der Meyde is not the only player inside the Premiership who has a bar-history behind him, since aces like Paul Merson, Tony Adams and Paul Gascoine, all had drinking problems during their football careers.
