It's no secret for anyone that Andy Roddick has never been the same since he won the ATP Tour years ago. Actually, it was the last year when Roddick managed to keep the world of tennis free of Roger Federer. Ever since Roddick won the US Open in 2003, the Swiss player managed to rule the tennis world completely, leaving no chance of winning to anyone in the meantime - well, except for Nadal.
More, the American number one player in the world right now
- Roddick - had to go through some pretty exhausting injuries, that broke his spirit and made him lose the chance to play a decent tennis in Paris and London, during the 2 Grand Slams of the Summer. After his disappointing elimination from Wimbledon this year - he lost to British teenager Andy Murray - Roddick is back in action and wants to show everybody that he's more prepared than ever for the US Open.
And the first chance he has of making a successful comeback is at Indianapolis Open. He cruised past Ramon Delgado in the first round with a convincing 6-3, 6-2, and seems confident in the near future. And his motivation couldn't have been higher, since he received the news of dropping out of the ATP Top 10 earlier in the month. The Paraguayan had a taste of Roddick's medicine from the beginning, watching the American hitting no less than 13 aces on the way.
"I feel really motivated, I can't wait to get out there and play. I played solid throughout, I wasn't defensive at all. I accomplished a lot of things that I wanted to", said Roddick after the win. And he might as well take his game into the higher phases of the tournament, since he hasn't reached a final in the ATP Tour for some time now. Here are a few interesting 1st round results from Indianapolis:
R. Ginepri - A. Falla 4-6, 7-5, 7-5
F. Gonzalez - S. Querrey 6-4, 6-4
H.T. Lee - M. Philippoussis 6-4, 7-5
W. Arthurs - H. Levy 6-3, 7-5
