Owners of notebooks, netbooks and other devices powered by x86 chips who wouldn't say no seeing Android running on their machine, might be familiar with the Android-x86 project.

Now, the team behind Android-x86 has rolled out the latest 4.4 RC2 build which is supposed to bring port KitKat goodness to your device.

The latest release comes bundled with a bunch of improvements, including 5-point touchscreen calibration, an updated kernel, better sensor support and smoother suspend and resume functions.

The new release is based on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat-MR1 release) and should smoothly run on x86 platforms, especially on tablets and netbooks.

However, if you want Android straight out of the box, you might be interested to know Archos has recently launched the ArcBook which comes with a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display that offers 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and sells for the super affordable price of $170 / €124.

The ArcBook has been designed as a low-end machine, by virtue of its low resolution, rather and impressive processor. On top of everything it doesn't even run Android 4.4 KitKat, but Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. But at this price, you shouldn't expect to get more.
