Recently, computer maker Dell has announced the global availability of its new Android-based Dell Venue smartphone, which made its debut in Hong Kong at the end of the last week.

The new mobile phone comes with a 4.1-inch touchscreen display on board, the same as on the Windows Phone 7-based Venue Pro, only that it runs under Google's Android 2.2 operating system.

Codenamed Thunder, the mobile phone comes with Dell's new Stage User Interface (UI) on top of Android, and also sports Dell's Own Shear Design Concept, which would make it a great option both for business professionals, as well as for creative junkies on the go.

In Hong Kong, the new device was made available for purchase with a price tag of HK$3,999 attached to it. According to Dell, the handset is already available on the local market via Broadway, Fortress, Suning Citicall and Wilson retail shops.

Some of the main features of the new device include:

- Premium look and feel with Dell's New Shear Design Concept. - The Stage UI provides a customizable user experience that simplifies access, usage and sharing of content. - Stunning 4.1-inch WVGA AM-OLED display frames a suite of apps for movies, books and music. - 8.0 megapixel auto focus camera with LED that can capture life's every moment in clarity. - Equipped with a full complement of email services, including POP3, IMAP, ActiveSync, Push Email, Web mail and Microsoft Exchange. - Preloaded with Swype text entry system, making editing and emailing work documents a breeze.

The specifications list of this device includes a 4.1'' screen that can deliver a 800 x 480 pixels resolution, along with an 8-megapixel photo snapper that offers video recording capabilities.

In addition to a fast processor, the mobile phone includes 1GB of ROM and 512MB of RAM, along with a micro SD memory card slot that can support up to 32GB of external storage space.

Other specification of this mobile phone include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, USB Mass Storage, AGPS, as well as support for GSM 850/900/1899/1900, and WCDMA 850/2100/2300 or 900/1700/2100 (HSDPA 7.2Mbps ; HSUPA 5.76 Mbps) connectivity options.

Running under the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the new handset also comes with Flash 10.1 support, for faster browsing capabilities, as well as with support for social networking and for various Google applications and services, including Maps, YouTube, Search, and more. (via Engadget)
