With all the hype surrounding the growing tablet market, it is only a matter of time before the bigger suppliers of PCs come out in full force, and Acer may do it sooner than other if its upcoming press conference turns out as rumors expect it to.

Tablets have definitely grabbed the attention of a fair number of consumers and hardware makers, and new models are finally starting to actually sell.

For instance, the Cruz from Velocity Micro began to make its way to consumers just a short time ago.

However, unlike many companies that have so far revealed their intention to take a chance on this segment, Acer did not only bet on the ARM-Android combination.

Though there were several Windows 7 slate projects when the Apple iPad came out, the industry began to shift to ARM and the Android OS, especially after the appearance of NVIDIA's Tegra 2 SoC.

Mostly, said system-on-chip became well received because of its support for high-quality multimedia and the Adobe Flash Player.

Sure enough, a recent rumor published by Digitmes states that, quite soon, Acer will reveal such a tablet of its own.

Still, it seems that the world-class maker of PCs has not given up on the Intel-Windows combination either.

As the same report has it, Acer's upcoming press conference, scheduled to take place in about a day or so, will have the outfit exhibiting a so-called Wintel slate as well.

There is, unfortunately, no sort of information on the product, although some assumptions and speculations can be made anyway.

Most likely the Intel Pine Trail platform will lie at the base of the tablet, since there is hardly any other suitable solution on the market right now.

Wireless support, the likes of WiFi and Bluetooth, plus various ports are also likely, but again, nothing has actually been disclosed. Whatever details Acer plans to deliver will come out on November 23.
