Google's Android operating system managed to secure a larger portion of the US subscriber market before the end of August 2011, the latest report from comScore shows.

In the three months ending August, Google's mobile operating system managed to reach a market share of no less than 43.7 percent.

The results of this survey are based on responses from a number of more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers, comScore notes.

The new data released from the comScore MobiLens service also shows that Samsung managed to end the three-month period with 25.3 percent market share, which placed it at the top of the manufacturers' segment.

During the time frame, 84.5 million people in the U.S. owned a smartphone, 10 percent more than when compared to the previous three-month period.

Android gained 5.6 percentage points from the previous period of time, and accounted for 43.7 percent of the market, while Apple remained on the second position with 27.3 percent market share (up 0.7 percentage points).
