The new update will bestow some extra features to Google’s wearable OS

At IFA 2014, Android Wear was in the spotlight thanks to ASUS’ new ZenWatch launch. As you might remember, Google’s wearable-centric operating system was released back in March.

A few months later, the search giant is apparently already gearing up to roll out an update, if we are to believe a report coming from Android Police.

An anonymous source claimed that Android Wear 2.0 (we don’t have an official name for it, just yet) would be ready to arrive around October 15.

In recent days Google talked to the press in an interview, revealing its plans to add some new features to Android Wear, including GPS, Bluetooth headphone and third-party watch face support, so the above information fits neatly into the overall picture.

The date also looks quite convenient, especially since this is the time when we expect the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R to make an appearance in retail.

Google’s eagerness to update Android Wear might be explained simply by the fact that Apple’s iWatch is in the pipeline. This competitive product is expected to burn through the competition and Android Wear devices are in the front line.

For the time being, the October date remains unconfirmed, but it shouldn't come as a surprise if this turns out to be the case.
