Based on IDC’s Q3 estimates for tablet shipments, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty has made some calculations that came up with an interesting hypothesis.

She claims that for the first time in history, Android-based devices like Google Nexus and Samsung Galaxy accounted for a larger share of sales revenue than Apple’s iPad.

Android tablets are more wide-spread with more manufacturers using this platform, as opposed to the iOS, which is exclusive to Apple. Android revenue reached 46.2% in Q3 2013 and managed to surpass the iPad’s 45.6%, reports BGR. It’s also worth mentioning that iPad shares have experienced a drop from 40.2% to 29.7% a year ago.

In the Android camp, things are on the rise. Mostly thanks to Samsung and Lenovo with their aggressive pricing strategies, shares have been increased from 58.5% to 66.7%.

But the possibility of a brief victory still looms in the distance, especially bearing in mind that Apple has just released its new iPad Air and Retina Display iPad mini, so shipments for the holiday season are bound to experience a boost.

Also, note that it is not known how Huberty extrapolates revenue share from IDC’s shipments numbers, as she did not explain the process.
