14 DAY TRIAL // Experts have noticed that the highly popular Cyanogen Mod Android ROM – currently installed on some 2.5 million devices – was actually logging screen unlock patterns.
Developer Gabriel Castro has noticed that, because of an extra line of code that slipped by, the swipe gestures utilized to unlock the screen were recorded.
According to The H Security, the controversial code was most likely added in August, when the grid format for the unlock pattern was modified.
Experts warn that this information is similar to passwords and although it couldn’t have been obtained by someone who didn’t have access to the device, the fact that it was logged might have exposed users to unnecessary risks.
Fortunately, the pesky line of code has been removed by the developer.
