Google's Android operating system has seen a considerably positive reception, especially considering the OS' success on such phones like the Google G1 or the more recent HTC Touch Hero. However, there have been a series of reports indicating that the OS could become a choice for netbook manufacturers, providing users with an alternative to the widespread Windows XP. It now appears that users have a chance to buy one of these Android-powered laptops, in the form of an Acer Aspire One, up for preorder on Amazon.com.

In the past, Acer has expressed its intentions of testing the Android operating system for use on one of its upcoming, small sized, low-power computer systems, also known as netbooks. Although the project was later dropped, it appears that some users will actually get to test out the Android OS on an Aspire One netbook. According to a listing on Amazon.com, an Aspire One 250 netbook model has been made available for those looking to enjoy the Android interface on a netbook.

The netbook offers a choice for a dual-boot OS configuration, with the end-user being faced with the choice of booting into the Android OS or the more popular Windows XP OS. Aside from that, the technical specifications of the model remain the same, with an Intel Atom N280 processor, clocked at 1.66GHz, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB hard drive and the familiar 10.1-inch WSVGA display with the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics.

The price of the Dual-OS Aspire One D250 is a starting US$350, so if you want to test out Android on your own ultraportable netbook system, be sure to check out the listing on the aforementioned website. On a side note, Acer has recently showcased a Windows 7-based netbook, which it reportedly plans to launch in Japan next week.
