As expected, Google has just released the Android M Developer Preview for a couple of Nexus devices. Just like last year when the search giant launched a Lollipop developer preview for Nexus 5, this year early adopters will be offered a glimpse of what's to come.

Although last year the developer preview was only available to Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owners, this year Google has decided to add a few more to the list of supported devices.

So, if you own a Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 or Nexus Player devices, then you will be able to download and install Android M Developer Preview.

According to Google, the Android M Developer Preview includes an updated SDK with tools, system images for testing on the official Android emulator, and system images for testing on the Nexus devices mentioned earlier.

You will be able to test some of the new features announced by Google, such as “Doze,” granular permissions and app links.

Keep in mind that installing these system images on a Nexus smartphone/tablet removes all data from the device, so you should backup your data before installing a system image.

Warning: The following Android system images are previews and are subject to change. Your use of these system images is governed by the Android SDK Preview License Agreement.

The Android preview system images are not stable releases, and may contain errors and defects that can result in damage to your computer systems, devices, and data.

The preview Android system images are not subject to the same testing as the factory OS and can cause your phone and installed services and applications to stop working.

That being said, you can now download Android M Developer Preview hardware system images for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player from Google's Developer website.
