Other version of the Tegra Note 7 received the update months ago

Back in February we brought you news that owners of the NVIDIA Tegra Note 7 tablet were seeing the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA update arrive on their device.

The new build arrived on the Advent Vega, Gigabyte and EVGA versions of the tablet, but HP Slate Extreme, which is another re-branded version of the NVIDIA slate, wasn't among the lucky ones, for some reason.

But as Android Police reports, four months later the new build is finally making an appearance on the tab mentioned above. Why the delay? We can’t really tell, but we guess later is always better than never.

So, if you are an owner of the HP Slate 7 Extreme, you can head on to Settings > About tablet > System update to check if the new version has arrived on your device.

Anyway, before you jump for joy thanking the Gods for the gift they have bestowed upon you, maybe you’d like to consider one of our earlier stories.

In it, we were telling you the update has caused a number of important inconveniences to Tegra Note 7 owners who have updated to the new build.

Users on several major forums (like xda-developers) have been complaining that the update brings about massive problems. Most importantly, the build seems to cause massive battery drain, severe overheating while in sleep mode, Skype not working and all apps shutting down when the tablet is in sleep.

But the most common issue seems to be related to microSD card functionality. On the EVGA forum, there’s a dedicated topic covering the bugs brought about by the new update.

“Someone please help. I updated to Kitkat. I had a 32GB card almost filled with games that I had moved from the device to the card using the app to SD function. Now, none of the games will start, or they will attempt to re-download the game data. It's like they no longer see that the data is on the external SD. My SD card is mounted and is currently recognized under storage,” explains one of the users.

Another issues is the updated tablet won’t connect to the Wi-Fi even if the slate is placed in the vicinity of the router. Apparently, disabling and enabling the Wi-Fi or performing factory resets doesn't seem to help with the problem.

Anyway, you should note these issues affect a number of owners and some Tegra Note 7 users have reported being fine with the update. We guess it’s a matter of luck, so if you’re feeling confident you can go ahead and update your HP Slate 7 Extreme.
