Should sport the powerful Snapdragon platform

Sony Ericsson's plans for the Android segment of the market are now reported to be shaping up in the form of a rather powerful device, which should land under the name of “Rachael.” The handset, which would be the first from the Japanese-Swedish phone maker to sport Google's operating system, should hit the market sometime before the end of 2009, which is in line with what the company already announced earlier this year.

Even so, some of the new details that surfaced recently on mobil.nu seem rather interesting when it comes to the supposed Android phone. For starters, the device seems to come as part of the company's Xperia series, which means that it should be a high-end phone. In addition, some internal documents that leaked from the company also show that the handset should sport the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform.

If so, then we will be looking at a Sony Ericsson Android phone featuring a 1GHz application processor, and which will come to the market with rather impressive 3D graphics capabilities. Moreover, “Rachael” is also reported to pack an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, as well as HSPA speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and a 3.5mm headphone jack. At the top of the phone, mobil.nu says, users will also find a mini-USB port.

The touchscreen display of the device should be as large as 4 inches, and, although there are no exact details on this, the resolution it might sport should be of 800 x 480 pixels. As one can easily see, there are not too many details on Sony Ericsson's Android phone at the moment, though more should surface in the near future. Since it is reported to be set for launch later this year, we might also learn that “Rachael” will sport the Android 2.0 OS, which is codenamed Donut.
