Report says that Microsoft is still considering this option

This isn't the first time we're hearing about the possibility of running Android apps on Windows 10 and Windows Phone 10, and a new report now claims that Microsoft is still considering this option for the future version of its modern operating systems.

The lack of apps on both platforms continues to be one of the biggest issues that Microsoft needs to deal with before the launch of Windows 10, and adding support for Android apps could indeed come in handy to many users out there.

And yet, no decision has been made in this case, as The Information notes, via unconfirmed sources, that Microsoft is still trying to figure out how to do it, so the plan is still on the table right now.

Making such a decision is clearly difficult because it comes with many pros and cons, but if it indeed does that, Microsoft needs to create a neat implementation that wouldn't have a big impact on its own platform.

Why would you still develop for Windows?

Right now, the key question if such a plan goes through is why anyone would develop an application for Windows alone when they could design one for Android and target both platforms at the same time.

That's exactly why Microsoft needs more time to get this right, and the aforementioned report claims that, although some information could be disclosed at today's Windows 10 event, the company might actually provide fairly vague details in order to make sure that it can still change its plans at a later time.

Both Windows and Windows Phone are suffering from the lack of apps right now, while rivals Android and iOS are doing extremely well.

At this point, Windows and Windows Phone have around 575,000 apps in both stores, while Android and iOS are said to each have approximately 1.3 million apps in their respective stores.

Of course, bringing Android apps on Windows Phone could be a way to tackle this problem, but it remains to be seen if Microsoft indeed finds a way to do this without harming its platform.
