Microsoft still has a hard time trying to convince developers to launch apps on its modern platforms, including Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, so the company might in the end turn to plan B and make a sudden change in the upcoming Windows 10 rollout.

A new report claims that Microsoft is still considering bringing Android apps on Windows Phone in order to open up new opportunities for developers and provide users with a wider array of apps that can be downloaded from a single store, thus addressing one of the biggest complaints for its modern platforms.

Not much is known at this point, but Neowin writes that Microsoft is working on a bit tricky plan that would require developers to port Android apps to its very own platform and thus make them available through the Windows Store.

This is already happening at some level right now, but the company is actually preparing a much more ambitious program that would make it a lot easier and faster to bring apps that are currently available in the Google Play store in the Windows Store.

It could happen in Windows Phone 10

This isn't the first that we're hearing about a plan that would bring Android apps on Windows, but this is clearly one of the things that Microsoft has to get right in order to be sure that everything works smoothly.

There's no doubt that opening the Google Play store for Windows customers would make the modern OS version developed by Microsoft a bit more appealing to users worldwide, and at the same time, it would also address one of the biggest setbacks with this product.

But in order to make it work, Microsoft still has to find a way to reward developers that are still creating native apps for modern Windows, and according to the aforementioned report, the company is already working on this behind closed doors.

Developers building for Windows would receive more resources and support from the company itself, and in addition, expect new options to monetize the apps to be offered as well.

Windows Phone 10 could be the first Microsoft OS version that might come with this significant change, but it remains to be seen if Microsoft has enough time to make it happen so soon.

At this point, Android apps can already be used on Windows with the help of BlueStacks, a desktop application that allows you to download tools from the Google Play store and run them on your PC.
