Android mobile phone users can now enjoy two more applications developed exclusively for their devices. One comes from Searchme, which announced that its Searchme visual search app could be downloaded for free from the Android Market, while the other comes from the top-selling newspaper and a leading online destination in the United States, USA TODAY, which also has an application available on the software portal for the operating system.

The Searchme app developed for Android-based phones brings a fun, easy-to-use interface that delivers large images of web pages, videos, music and products directly on the handsets. The next-generation search engine has been developed so as to enhance the search experience offered by traditional engines. The application already has more than 4 million monthly users, although it has been live for only a year, and this year it has seen a growth of more than 180 percent.

“Searchme’s visual search app is perfectly suited for Android users who are looking for ways to push the boundaries of what their smartphone can do,” said Randy Adams, Searchme founder and CEO. “This solves a real issue for mobile users – a faster, better way to do mobile search. The feedback we’re getting from the mobile community is that they like being able to quickly preview web pages before deciding to take the time to load them in the browser.”

The second application to come to Android users, USA TODAY’s solution, offers access to the latest news stories, weather, photos and interactive polls. Among the features that it includes we can count Headlines (providing stories from News, Money, Sports, Life, Tech and Travel, while also allowing for the articles to be shared via email, text message or Twitter), USA TODAY Snapshots, Scores (sports scores for NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, college football and college basketball), Weather and Photos (offers the best images of the day from news, sports, celebrities, science, travel and weather).

Among the other USA TODAY application features users will also find support for rich media mobile advertising, like click-to-call, click-to-maps and video. Matt Jones, vice president of mobile strategy and operations for Gannett Digital, commented, “In the rapidly expanding mobile marketplace Android is a great platform for USA TODAY.” He also added that “USA TODAY continues to develop innovative mobile products and services and the Android application is an excellent way to extend our reach to the latest emerging platforms.”
