Today Calendar Pro is now popular on Google Play Store

Earlier this month, Today Calendar Pro developer Jack Underwood told his circle of friends on Google+ that, of all the installs of its Android application, about 85% were pirated.

With only 15% legit installs, Today Calendar Pro did not stand any chance of becoming a popular application on Google Play Store unless something miraculous would happen.

And it looks like things got better to Underwood and his very good Today Calendar Pro application for Android devices. He decided to add some pragmatic anti-piracy measures in his software, and instead of making it unusable, he included some pirate-themed events that would be triggered by certain words.

This has been taken over by the media and news about Today Calendar Pro spread worldwide quickly turning Underwood's idea into a great PR move.

Thanks to this exposure, the sales of Today Calendar Pro on Google Play store skyrocketed for the next few days, but also dropped the piracy rate to 56% from the previous 85%.

“Over the last week pirated installs have made up 56% of the downloads. Much better, but I guess we’ll see how long it lasts!” Underwood told TorrentFreak.

According to Underwood, his application has sold three times more than usual following the news about his anti-piracy measure introduced in Today Calendar Pro.

The piracy-themed events are available to those who purchase the app legally too

Moreover, his application received a large amount of high score ratings on Google Play Store, which in turn put the application on top of the highest rated calendar app in the store.

As sales for Today Calendar Pro increased, those who purchased the application have become interested in the pirated-themed events Underwood added, so he found a solution for those who acquired the application legally to be able to see them as well.

“Users can now trigger the pirate events themselves. Any event title with ‘walk the plank’ or ‘swashbuckling’ or ‘pirate’ (providing there’s no other trigger words) will cause the pirate images to be displayed.”
